I’ve heard people say “I just don’t have the time”. There’s always time! I have a full time job, married with a small child and train weekly in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and manage to squeeze in language studying. How you ask? Well, first I think back at all the time I wasted when I was a young single man with no responsibilities and say I wish I did this and that! Then I look at all the time I waste doing mundane things such as driving to work 5 days a week.
We all have to get to work some how either by train, car or whatever. Is there anything more boring than sat in traffic for 30/60 minutes in traffic 5 days a week? Imagine all the other things you could be doing instead of sat here in traffic on a miserable Tuesday morning. Well, dig out your language CD and start practicing! By doing this your making the most of your time! All my language learning with the Michel Thomas method is in my car as I have no distractions from work, wife, bills or baby. I have turned non productive time into 100% productive time!
This is a bit late but the last few days have been very busy as I have had lots of family over. My August goals are:
1. Finish disk 1 and 2 of Michel Thomas Arabic Vocabulary Course – I have finished the Advanced and now it’s time to move to the most advanced part of his course.
2. Find a language partner who lives in Manchester and start language exchange – I don’t think the Skype thing is working out as I can’t get much free time in my house as I have a 4 month old baby. I plan to do 2 hours a week if I find the right person.
3. Continue using AnkiDroid to practice the Michel Thomas course
4. Watch 8 hours of Arabic TV
As July was such a bad month due to falling ill I intend to make August a good month! Let’s do this!
July has to be my worst month so far! I fell sick for about a week and a half and felt like absolute crap. My Arabic language studying fell drastically. However, I did manage to finish off the Michel Thomas Advanced Arabic Course just in time before the month ended. I didn’t manage to get any language exchange as every time I have free time my baby starts to cry! So, I have a cunning plan, I’m going to find a language exchange student here in Manchester so I can study outside the house. This will guarantee I have dedicated language exchange time.
I managed to get 11 hours of studying Michel Thomas’s Advanced Arabic course resulting in all disks being finished! They really have made a huge difference. Just half an hour in the morning on the way to work can make a huge difference.
